I mainly cover and collect the latest news of Africa with a special emphasis on Uganda. Today from this article I will tell you the top 10 interesting facts about Uganda.   

 
1- Uganda is also known as the “Pearl of Africa”, this nickname was coined by Winston Churchill, a British statesman in 1908, to convey the beauty, variety, and natural wealth of the land. Uganda is located in Africa’s most coveted travel sojourns.   

2- Uganda is one of the most densely populated countries in Africa with a population of 45 million (about twice the population of New York). It is also one of the fastest-growing countries in Africa.   

3- Uganda consists of the world’s youngest population. The median age in Uganda is just 15.7 years.  

4- The nickname of Kampala is 'City of Seven Hills'. The name Kampala originates from the local Bugandan name ‘K’empala’ which refers to the Hill of the Impala’, a name given to the colonial settlement by the British.  

5- Lake Victoria is the largest lake located in Uganda. It is the largest tropical lake in the world, and it is the second-largest freshwater lake in the world.   

6- Margherita Peak of Mount Stanley in the Ruwenzori Mountains with 5,109 m/ 16,762 ft is the highest peak in Uganda.   

7- English and Swahili are the official languages of Uganda, while Luganda, also referred to as Ganda, is spoken widely in Uganda. Until the year 2005, the official language of Uganda was English only.   

8- Above 80% population of Uganda are Christians, near about 45% are Protestants, and 39% the Catholics. Muslims also exist in about 14%.   

9- There are 10 national parks in Uganda known for their pristine forest landscape. The famous parks or attractions of Uganda include the Ruwenzori mountains and the Great Rift Valley. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is very popular for its Mountain Gorilla population, which also results in gorilla trekking.   

10- Uganda is home to varied wildlife such as giraffes, elephants, antelopes, buffalos as well as hippopotamuses and crocodiles. Uganda is also known as the land for birdwatching. There are about one thousand bird species recorded in Uganda. African jacana and orange weaver birds are the most common birds that are found here.    

The above mentioned are just a few facts about Uganda, but the country is blessed with varieties of natural resources, lavishing landscape, and a wide range of bio diversities, which in actual sense make Uganda the “Pearl of Africa.”
