Why is Uganda still lagging behind despite having tremendous resources?

A landlocked country in East Africa, Uganda is described as the “Pearl of Africa”, due to its diverse range of natural resources and wildlife. A land of amazing and stunning landscapes that attracts people all over the world. I’m Emmanuel Katto also known as Emmanuel Katto Uganda or Emka Emmanuel Katto, a local journalist from Uganda. Since Uganda is rich in natural resources but why is it still lagging? I will tell you more about it. To know more please scroll down.

The ample fertile land of Uganda offers an ideal practice of agriculture with higher outcomes. The key natural resources found in Uganda include copper, cobalt, limestone, salt, gold, and diamond, platinum, which contribute significantly to the export strengthening the GDP.

Despite tremendous resources, the country is still lagging in terms of development due to various factors. Factors such as limited infrastructure, governance system, skills gap and education, limited access to finance and market limitations, and several other reasons create a barrier in the development path.

According to the reports, now the government is taking appropriate measures to address these issues. The government along with other international bodies or non-profits are working to improve and bring a positive change in the life of the people.

Recent reports suggest that the government in collaboration with other bodies is planning to launch an alliance for promoting trade globally and building dynamic markets for farmers in sustaining crops such as cocoa and coffee.

International non-profit such as Swisscontact is also collaborating with the government to improve the condition in Uganda, especially the rural area. Initiatives such as private sector engagement in refugee areas, partnership for youth and skill development, and agricultural development along with diversification into trade facilitation, migration, tourism, and construction, are taking place in a collaborative way in Uganda.

In conclusion, we can say that the government in Uganda is continuously working with several international bodies to improve the social and economic conditions of the people, enhancing the overall development of the country.
